Seed selection for universal turf

Components
SEED SELECTION FOR UNIVERSAL TURF
It is a blend composed of fast-growing species, ideal for creating turfgrass in full sun areas designed for family green spaces, recreational areas, and sports fields, ensuring quick ground coverage. Its excellent aesthetic appearance, easy establishment, cost-effective maintenance, and good resistance to foot traffic are the best features of this lawn.
Characteristics
- Fast growing
- Low maintenance
- Very resistant to traffic
Uses
FERTILIZATION AND IRRIGATION
A dense and vibrant lawn requires constant care. The high nitrogen demand during the vegetative recovery period (spring-late summer) can be met with numerous applications of low-nitrogen fertilizers, or (twice a year) with high-nitrogen controlled-release fertilizers. Phosphorus and potassium-based fertilizers should be applied in case of stressed lawns and always during the autumn-winter period. Water frequently during the summer and ensure that water absorption into the soil is neither too slow nor too fast.
MOWING AND PROTECTION
The first mowing should be done very gently with well-sharpened blades to avoid tearing the young plants. Mow to a height of 5-6 cm, on dry ground. Thereafter, mow as needed (in summer, even once a week). The appearance of the lawn largely depends on the regular maintenance it receives. In addition to regular mowing and fertilizing, deep aeration should be done annually to eliminate thatch and allow the soil to breathe.
SOIL PREPARATION
The soil should be of medium texture with good drainage. During tillage, which should be to a depth of 15-20 cm, it may be necessary to amend the soil with sand, peat, etc. After removing weeds and debris during tillage, apply a base fertilizer with compost or manure, which can be effectively substituted with synthetic or mixed-organic products.
SEEDING
Break up clods and roll the soil. Optimal seeding times are April-June and August-October. Distribute the seed (quantity indicated on the box) by hand, mixing the product continuously, or with a linear spreader, which is also ideal for distributing fertilizers. Rake and cover with a thin layer of peat or sand and roll to ensure good seed-to-soil contact. After seeding, water lightly with a fine spray to avoid displacing the seeds and keep the soil consistently moist.
